The engineering major at ��̳ brings together science, mathematics, and design with a liberal arts perspective to prepare you to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

Overview

��̳’s Engineering Program builds on a strong foundation of physics science, mathematics, and design to produce engineers who have the ability to design with the future in mind. There is a critical demand for engineers in the workforce, and this program will arm you not only the technical skills needed to solve problems and lead innovation, but also crucial understanding of how your work affects environments, communities, economies and people around the world. The critical thinking and analytical skills taught in the major’s foundational courses, combined with the communication skills, exposure to diversity and sustainability, and other liberal arts values embedded in ��̳’s curriculum, will prepare you for a variety of future paths including careers in industry or consulting, or graduate study in an engineering field.

Curriculum

The Engineering Program is designed to allow you to pursue areas of specialization, from civil engineering to chemical, computer, mechanical, and more through an array of required electives. Among the core requirements in the engineering major, you will take courses in engineering, physics, math and chemistry.

Experiential Learning

Students engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflection to develop skills and increase knowledge retention.

Engineering majors at ��̳ will get hands-on experience using modern tools and software including Autodesk for computer aided design and MATLAB for programming. Engineering majors will also have the opportunity to engage in mentored research with faculty and peers and through the ��̳ for Career and Professional Development, engage in internships in their field.

Internships

We're committed to helping students find quality internship experiences in the career area of their choice.

��̳ students have taken part in internships at Microsoft, the University of Kentucky Department of Biomedical Engineering, OnPoint Warranty Solutions, Norton Healthcare, Asurion, Hitachi Automotive and the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association.

Engineering Studies

Engineering Studies lets you dive into engineering concepts while giving you more freedom to explore other subjects you're passionate about, like biology, medicine, or law. Plus, with fewer math and sciences requirements, you have the flexibility to double major, making it easier to tailor your degree to your goals after graduation. It’s perfect for students who want a well-rounded education with an engineering foundation.

Students participating in ��̳ Compass Program

Dual-Degree Engineering

��̳ has cooperative dual-degree agreements with two engineering schools: Washington University—St. Louis and the University of Kentucky. After three years at ��̳, students transfer to the dual-degree institution and complete their studies, usually in two years. Upon successful completion, degrees are awarded from both ��̳ and the engineering school.
